"This
is landscape painting for the 21st century,
active on many layers, and no longer entirely reliant on direct observation.
Its indirections is actually what makes it so effective."

essay Liza Gough Daniels: Watching Paint Dry
"I
work in the realm of fluidity.
Paint as liquid, light reflecting, light absorbing material that becomes
surface.
Change, and movement of material is the key communicative element. The
paintings are formed by the order inherent in natural forces. Gravity
is the power working with the physiology of the pigment, oil and solvent
combinations, poured on horizontal panels or down pigmented plaster
walls.
Pouring paint is a way of liberating the hand and reducing compositional
conventions and habits. The shaped panels contradict the pull of gravity,
appearing suspended, hovering or floating. Colour
is selected and evaluated for the physical behaviour of the pigment as
well as for opacity, transparency or hue and forms the most instinctive
element of my studio practice. The paintings are not literal or directly
referential, but may remind the viewer of experiences with water and light
because these elements are bound into the work."
